What a Surprise!

We went to Charlotte NC last weekend and on the way home, we stopped as I always do to get a cup of the best coffee on the planet..that being from McDonald's.  I have always felt that way.  Beats any coffee I have ever had elsewhere.  Anyway. We stopped and rather than try to eat our biscuits while hurtling down the highway, we decided to sit in the restaurant and eat.  Well, I happened to notice the register receipt and for pete sakes, there in N.C. they have an "EAT IN" TAX!  I'm sure that isn't exclusive to NC..there probably is such a tax =elsewhere but good grief!  An eat in tax!  A tax for eating IN!  PUL-EEZE!!!!

  2. There are many, many hidden taxs that we blame the high price on the business. Gas is one of them. In many places that you go to eat out there are extra taxs but usually not labeled like yours. Many new ones on the table right now, some you will hear about and most will just slip in quietly. But, life goes on, we keep smiling and living doing the things we love!

  7. Can't argue about where to find the best coffee...one of our favorite places. As to the eat in tax: I believe that's why you're asked if it's for here or to go. A lot of places charge that.
Signed up for Blogspot: http://little-this-that.blogspot.com/ Couldn't figure out how to transfer my posts, so figure they can be kept at Word Press...at least for now.

  11. Reminds me about something that happened to me over in Indiana back about 30 years ago.
I stopped for gas at a little Mom & Pop Grocery out in the country. I pumped $5.00,( the last of my money) and went in to pay for it. I was told that the total was something like $5.35. I didn't know that they didn't have the sales tax built into the pump price like everywhere else. I was able to dig up a few coins in the car, and they let me pass on the balance.

  15. Now that I've seen this blog I hope I'm not taxed for it...wait, I think there are some considering just such a thing! We've been having coffee here that Starbucks donated to us for this mission trip...sorry but that's the best darn instant coffee I've ever had or maybe it's 'cause I'm where I am so anything from home seems kind of comforting!

  18. What's the Drive Thru tax? Inquiring minds want to know.

  19. So, today, I did a drive-thru lunch at McD's. And there on the receipt in black and white it listed "Drive Thru Tax". I have no idea if the Eat-In Tax is different. But it's worth looking into.
