For Want of a Shoe....

The oven was preheating..the scent of pumpkin, cloves, cinnamon and ginger were in the air..sugar and spices were swirled together, the 2 eggs installed :-) into the bowl..and then..time for some evaporated milk. Well, I brought down from out of the cupboard 3 five oz. cans of milk. All out of date. One by 2 months, the others a YEAR! The plumber was expected within half an hour hence, I had to stay home. So I put it all in the fridge till they got here and left again.

Girls and boys, kitties and doggies, don't ever do OR let happen to you this next thing I am going to tell you about. I got my trusty step stool and went to the top shelves in the cabinet and pulled out cans and looked at dates. There were 6 cans of Progresso soup waaaaay out of date. There were 3 cans of Campbell's cream of mushroom out of date. Since I recycle, I had to empty each can (I do not have a garbage disposal unit) wash it out and pitch it in my recycle bin. The gloop..I put in a double garbage bag and in the trash till I can go to the disposal center tomorrow. I don't want to leave anything questionable out for wild animals. Not even the 'coons and coyotes. And, it's an awful waste of food too. But I believe I have learned from it.

I have the pie in the oven as we speak. When I go to Charlotte next weekend a week from now I will take the makings for an apple crisp.

I have fed her Majesty and I am munching on graham crackers. I had a huge bowl of my homemade vegetable beef soup for supper last night and lunch today. Nummy in the tummy.

SO good to see several more of the blog family here. ♥♥♥

Fall Day! Indeed it is..gorgeous too. September 29th 2010

I have been busier than hen's teeth. Her Majesty got me up at 0710. Not complaining and...she was polite about it. She always settles in for snuggles and lots and lots of petting and a hundred or so kisses. THEN we get up and we have our separate breakfasts. Hers first of course.

Cold when I got up. Well, it was 67 degrees inside the house on waking. 50ish outside. I don't want to turn on the heat for that, but it is a trifle cool so no schlumping around for half an hour or more in jammies. I got dressed in warm clothes. Wore socks to bed last night. First time of the season and long jammies. Shorty ones are in the machine for washing and putting up.

Went out, did errands and groceries, came home, weeded the whole front garden, then I came in and scoured the bathroom. The tub and surround would look OK at first glance but it's been 2 weeks. It needed it. Called the plumber who --of course--has not called back so, I will call again.

Had a welcome call, always do, from my higher up supervisor at my last job. he always calls on my birthday but couldn't on the 25th so he called today. VERY welcome and we got the troubles of the world completely thrashed out and solved! I can't wait till our mutual plan is put into action.

Hairdresser put a gloss on my hair a couple days ago and it looks outstandingly gleamy. That will last till I shampoo tonight. Wish it would stay. That which we buy in the stores..just ain't the same.,

OK. Female type blog here. My flu shot site (got it yesterday) is a little itchy and a bit sore. Sure beats having the flu. :-)

September 28, 2010 First real day of Fall weather

My goodness. The temp in the house never got over 70 yesterday and when I woke this morning it was 68. Needless to say it is too early to turn on heat But you almost want to regardless (no, I won't do it) because the change from 90's and more was so abrupt. Our bodies are used to being hot.

I went to bed last night wearing long jammies for the first time since late Spring. Somewhere at the end of the week, it will be mid 40's at night. Now I may have to have a touch of heat to get the chill off the house..just once in the morning so that the day can warm it up more easily.

I went for my flu shot today. They combine the regular flu shot with the H1N1 and I suppose I will have a sore arm to remind me. Better than having the flu.

Indeed I am going over the mountains weekend after this one. October 8th. Maybe I can learn better how to use the new lens which I am not having a lot of luck with right now.

I believe I will keep porting over the blogs and stay here and after getting all the blogs off Spaces, delete it. You?

A New Year to Enjoy Jan. '07

Happy New Year to each one of you. Blessings to all of you as well. Be grateful for all that you already DO have before you ask for more, and your "plate" will be overflowing.

I have started off right! The Diva is sweating! My face is red as is the rest of me. I was on the treadmill extra long today and it's that durn iPod doing it. Soon, I will be up there several times just so I can enjoy the music more. (I decided to use it while exercising as an incentive). I came in here to look at mail while I stood and did my weights. I bought weights twice as heavy as I started out with so I mixed up my workout. Started out heavier and went to the lighter. No use hurting something and totally messing myself up.

It is BEEYOOTEEFUL out there, and sunny with 46 degrees already. Not sure what the high will be but if it's good enough..comfortable shoes and I'm outta here.

'Course, I have to get myself Diva-licious first. That means do my face so I won't scare anyone. My complexion is so milky my face looks like a white china dish with two blue marbles at the top. (that'd be my eyes). So, want to get those blonde brows and eyelashes darkened..then and only then, I'm outta here!

You know what I did last night? I watched Animal Planet (I know..I'm lame) and there was the neatest show on...one hour each. One was about a black leopard baby hand raised till he could be released back into the so-called wild. The other was about a polar bear baby. In his case, he was reared in a zoo till another zoo home could be found. He started out in Toronto Zoo I believe I remember. I smiled for two hours straight. The black leopard one was especially endearing. Not because I am a cat person but because of the true unswerving affection..no..love that family shows all of their animals they care-take before releasing them. That includes the two teen sons who were reared with the idea as that is what these folks do. It's in Colorado. Lottiemae may know who they are but I don't think she will see this.

Seeing that baby leopard bottle fed every hour and a half and with such love and dedication..seeing him asleep in any one of their beds..his face next to theirs on the pillow (the way my little Lady does) and all the kisses he got all the time..did my heart good. A great way for me to end the old year.

I have been out of the Party way for years due to my high profile job and the hours. No need to start what I never got used to to begin with. :-)

You all in the blogging family have a great day and a loving new year!

January 2, 2007

My goodness. Here I am; late for me.

I had the pleasure of attending a luncheon with many co-workers and then, one came back to my house and we were joined  later by a dear friend of mine. That was a wonderful afternoon as it always is in the company of friends. The one girl friend brought over a big plate of homemade peanut-butter and chocolate fudge. Along with that was a LARGE deep cup filled with homemade peanut chocolate clusters. All for me. She's been trying to get here since just after Christmas but with me sick with that virus and her work schedule today was the first opportunity. I had a piece..well, OK. I had 5 pieces and then, soon as the door hit their tails on the way out, I called another friend who is a supervisor at work and said "I have a BIG plate of homemade fudge and chocolate nut clusters. Come and git it, or it gets thrown out". He came to get it on his way in on midnights. All the guys in that building will eat it. I can't have that sort of thing in the house. I am like a you -know -what. I will eat it all. I can't eat sugar hardly. If I do, it just breeds wanting more.

I am tired. Just am. I skipped the workout this morning,. I needed a break really body-wise. The upped weights worked on me a little during the night and I felt some small aches. I am going fast enough on the treadmill also to make my shins groan a little. So..I gave myself a 24 hr. break and tomorrow I will belay the heavier weights or at least use them less that I was. I am a little more enthusiastic than I should be. Doesn't matter what it is..when I start something not only do I finish it..I also do it very enthusiastically without fail. Ask anyone who knows me.

Interesting comments from yesterday's blog regarding global warming possibilities. I was careful not to say or even hint at what I may or may not think is the cause of the sparse Winter-like weather. I tried to be neutral and only set forth an observation.

I was thinking though about how not 8 years ago I would have to get from the car in the parking lot at work down to HQ and wading thru the snow up to my knees. The ice hanging in sheets from the buildings (and my house) in jagged shards. Since this is a city of hills (and dales!) the traffic almost at a standstill. Vivian knows what I speak of as she has, or had similar weather.

I should not be able to ride around with the moon roof opened in December and January, ya know?

Hope you all have had as good a day as I have had. I was fortunate in having a good hair day!!! And the rest of me looked pretty good too. After all, you never know who you might meet.

Note To Self Jan. '07

It is a far better idea to do your treadmilling on a passably empty belly.

Been to The Big City and got the oldest son. Going back sometime or other Friday. We will have spaghetti with meat sauce tonight. I just cranked out the frying pan to get started with the beef. Come on over..some hard rolls as well with plenty of butter! We are passing on dessert unless the fruit bars will do. Those things are darned good! I love the frozen grape juice ones.

Man I will tell you..my new female car, Miyuki, or Snowflake is what my 2nd son calls her...has plenty of muscle. She rocketed up the hills on the Interstate. So much so I had to step on the brakes more than once. My Saturn, Zack, was venerable and a fine old gentleman but he was, ahem, getting elderly. He also didn't have as much horsepower as Miyuki has. She sprang forth like the youngster she is!! And by golly that is exactly what I will tell the State Troopers too!
I had to do the treadmilling after we got home from The Big City and a Krystal run for oldest son. He wanted the chili pups. I am sorry to say I had 3 Krystals. When I hopped up on the mill..hooked up the iPod and got going, ugh. I see now why I prefer to do the exercise at 0830. Easier on the stomach and noting much in there. Patty..thanks. I did yours for tomorrow!!

Judging from all the remarks these past two days from quite a varied difference in locale in the Country and Canada...everyone is having too warm a Winter. My roses are trying to make red leaves...my bulbs are starting to rise up out of the ground..some folk have Forsythia blooming..come on! Good grief!!

What goes good with spaghetti and meataballas and rolls besides salad. (ewwww)? Any suggestions?

Sailor Scout (that be me) says bye.

Um Um Good Jan. '07

Love the ideas for spaghetti night! I wrote some of the ideas down so as to remember them next time. I just have no imagination whatsoever in combinations of things to go with others meal-wise. I keep doing the same old same old things. Thanks, seriously, for the good ideas.

Oldest son is back home and I cleaned up a little after a short half hour nap with Ms. Cat on my lap. Those things (cats) are lethal. They will make you nap even if you don't think you want to. Someone else I said that to said the Sandman also is a culprit as he gets up on the chair back and throws sand down in yours and the cat's eyes. I just know that my eyes will slam shut no matter what if I am there, it's quiet (and it always is), and she is on my lap. Hang it up. It's all over. Zzzzz's everywhere. Those that I don't use I have to vacuum up soon as I wake up.

I did get up on the treadmill and I did the weights but it was raining out there..gloomy looking and I had no enthusiasm whatsoever. It was all I could do to get up there. It didn't help that oldest was here and I'd rather be talking to him.

There was happily for me, a re-run last night on the Animal Channel of Eddie that baby black leopard I spoke other day in my blog. I sat right down and watched the entire thing again, happily. It is some Preserve near Denver I think...I do know it is in CO. I have my little leopard though, right here looking up at me as I write.

I do believe I have been to see each one of ya. Come and see me..I missed you.

Coulda Gone All year Without This! Jan. '07

The worst has happened in a way, fitness speaking. The treadmill gave out. It's old. Motorized but old. The boys might know how old if one of them cares to leave a comment.

I had cranked it up yet another notch higher..as I was feeling good despite the rain pouring down outside the window..thought I would try to outrun it. Oh, such an awful knocking and grinding. I turned it down and the only difference was a lessening of the pitch of it grinding and knocking. Case closed. the poor thing has started it's rapid downward spiral. As it is old, I really don't see a lot of use in having it repaired. I will start scouting for a new one. Not a happy thing money-wise, but needed.
Yes, the streets are there, but it is hot/cold/rain/snow/I look less than diva-like, as reasons not to always hit the street for my fitness.
With the treadmill there and you looking at it, there is not a lot of excuse not to get on it. If it is the street...you can think of a million of them. (excuses).

So, once I cool down and get the red out of my face and finish dressing I will head out on a search for a new one. IF they will take the old one. No way I can dispose of it. If they won't I will keep looking till someone will or I may learn to love the street.

It is raining out there, man it is raining. And it's 50 degrees. They did say reality will return early next week and possible snow showers at least on Tuesday or Wednesday. At least it will be colder.

You know..I haven't lost an ounce during this three months so far but I will tell you..I have gained strength and my arms look much better (I just bought yet another set of weights in my progression upward) and my clothes hang better regardless I haven't lost any weight. Got a little muscle I guess. My lower back isn't hurting AS much though it still hurts. When I started out the first of October, I thought my back was going to break in two. Asunder! Twain! 2 pieces! But it got better.

Hope you have a great weekend all of you. Sure beats not! So have a happy one.

Watched Pot Syndrome Jan. '07

A watched pot never boils..and a listened for phone never rings.  Ever notice that?  I am waiting for delivery of my new treadmill.  I went out as soon as they were open at 1200 yesterday and bought a new treadmill.  Can't wait to hope for one in the paper's classifieds though that was a super idea IF I could wait.  I don't want to get out of rhythm as it were.

I am on the list for today's delivery but I have no way of knowing how many are ahead of me.   I could call and may do so as the afternoon wears on and I get more and more impatient.  They have my cell number as well so I won't have to sit in the house..I can hurry back as long as I don't go far.  I will wager however, that it won't get here till tomorrow if I am lucky.

I loved the humor from several about giving it its thank you's and a proper send-off.  I will do so and have done so already except its actual exit from its home, this house where it has lived for about fifteen years.

Apparently the days of free delivery are well over.  My eye opening experience came yesterday when I learned I had to pay them the munificent sum of $65.00 to bring it here for me.  They are supposed to take the old one with them when they leave. I don't have any men in standby who can help me with this conundrum of what to do with something too heavy and bulky for my car and too heavy and too bulky for me to handle once home assuming it could get into my car (which it cannot) and..I am a complete set of thumbs with no fingers at all (or common sense) when it comes to putting something together.  My spatial relations got left behind the door when I was  created.  So..I am here...dressed and waiting for the treadmill who shall arrive at ???? hrs.

Meanwhile..moving on, it is sunny and 41 degrees.  Cooler than yesterday with still the promise of snow showers tomorrow. (ain't gonna happen!)

I feel like Johnny Cash this morning.  I am all in black!  (must be over the demise of my treadmill) I will haul my guitar out (yes I have one and I can play it) and start singing.  Can't get as low in pitch as he did but...I can try!)

Hope you all had a great weekend.  I sure did.

P.S.

I see I still have a temper.  I called the store to ask when my treadmill was going to be delivered..and I assure you I did it VERY nicely. At that time, there was no reason not to be nice.  I said who I was, that I had bought the treadmill yesterday, had been told it would be delivered and set up today and what did the manager say? " I have NO idea what you are talking about!" and he said it in a not too customer friendly tone.  Nothing pushes all my buttons at once better or faster than a rude person.  And I have never been a shrinking violet I assure you.  So I piled in the vehicle and had 3 miles to continue to build up a head of steam.  Another manager had care of me when I got there and I said " THIS is what I am 'talking about' and your org would be better served training _____ to be polite to the customer when they call.  Stating in a terse manner like I was an idiot that he had no idea what I was talking about..that tone, is why I am here right now."
I was decently quiet talking..apologized to the current guy for being mad as it wasn't at him.  Then we may have gotten this mess straightened out.  According to this particular guy, the little associate boy was new (and he was young) and didn't ring it up in the manner that would trigger them having to deliver.  I said fine..but regardless, that manager needed some lessons in courtesy.  That if I had spoken to someone on the phone like that and in that tone at work, I would be severely talked to.  Oh, I was hopping mad.  One day down with no workout, another coming.  If I don't get that thing in the morning, I will go and get all my money back and go somewhere I can depend on.
This is S**rs, by the way.

Valhalla (probably misspelled) Jan. '07

Probably spelled that wrong.

Anyway, it was snowing like anything..and the phone rang with it being a chirpy 'good morning, it was S**rs and they are on their way with the treadmill'! I said 'cool', and was waiting by the door. I know why I was first on the list. I live at the top of a pretty darn good sized hill. Remember I said it was snowing. (snow shower it turns out but it laid an inch down in no time) So..he showed up. Parked the pick up truck on the street. OK. Got out a dolly, set it on the street, turned to leap up into the back of the pick up and of course the dolly took off running down hill. Oh it was funny. He hopped off the bed of the truck and took off literally running after the dolly which could have hit anything. He caught up with it, and hauled himself and it back to the PU truck. He tried in the pelting snow to wrestle the treadmill (fully assembled but folded down) off the PU truck and onto the slithery snowy street. There was no one to help..just him. I struggled into my coat, pulled the hood up and was in my shoes to go lend a hand when he finally got the dolly and mill together and started hauling it to my front door. I went out anyway to hold the screen door open. We manoeuvred and got it in. Wiped it down...got it in place, disassembled the old one..hauled it out.

He set it up, we called it a day, and he took off like a big bird in his silver colored PU truck.

After hitting the grocery for tomorrow's meal w/ one of my sons, I came back and used my new treadmill. WHEW! Seems like it was harder today. But me and the iPod are back together making tracks with the new treadmill. By the way..no wonder the weights seemed lighter and that necessitated me buying heavier ones. heck, I finally realized I was only doing one set each of everything. Good grief. No wonder it seemed too little. It WAS too little so today, 3 sets of 10. Who knows where my mind was all these months.

I think that should end my rants. I haven't been to see hardly anyone yet today but I will start now.

Have a good one.

I Can't Belive I Ate The Whole Thing! Jan. '07

The old " I can't believe I ate the whole thing" syndrome going on here. I really didn't eat that much. However, when I ate it, it was appetite and not hunger and now I am paying the price with an overly full belly.

Why? Well, oldest is here and I made for the first time a Salisbury steak dinner. I have sort of made that through time, but I found a good recipe and decided to give it a try. Sure am glad I did. It smelled heavenly, for one thing but the taste was delicious too! I served it with its gravy including the sliced onions along with mashed potato and buttered hot corn. I was not hungry and yielded to the lovely aroma. Picture me prostrate on the floor with my distended belly pointing toward the ceiling!! Groan.

Gorgeous day here. Sunny, cold and windy. We listened to Classical music coming home. Those who know me know hard rock and hip hop are usually my weapon of choice but not today. I love classical just as much. We are talking a total dichotomy here!

I did get up on the treadmill and did my weights workout but...I gave out after 25 minutes as I think round three of the upper respiratory virus is upon me. OR it is a cold. Whatever it is, I am puny and wimpy. So, I just heeded the "Will you just get OFF the treadmill woman!???" internal voice sounding in my head and got off. Maybe I will feel more like it tomorrow.

Tea. I will make a cup of Earl Gray!! No lemon required as the fragrance of Earl Gray is good enough as is the taste.

It has altogether been a pleasant day. I had to get more Sudafed for the post nasal drip and as usual had to show my license and all that stuff to get it. Sigh.

If anyone has been reading my blog for awhile, they may understand when I say " I think it will snow over the Mountains this weekend".

Later,

Ready, Aim, SNOW! Jan. '07

If I am headed across the mountains this weekend, it will surely snow! Happens so frequently I am already ready to cancel at a moment's notice. But it is my middle's birthday and I would like to be there.

Cindy, I think you're on to me. But send the soup anyway. I'm getting lazy with all this coddling! While I am waiting though I'll roll out the Earl Gray again. Love that stuff.

Too wimpy to do the treadmill today but I did do my weights. Monday I will make an appointment and see if we can finally get this whupped. I am tired of this recurrent viral thing. It must be me re-infecting myself somehow.

I am all packed, have my book light in my backpack and hope to goodness I will remember the book. Cannot sleep without some reading first. Old established habit so I could sleep coming off my 12 hr. shifts. You need a routine.

I did change the sheets again today (I like to do that every few days...I'm spoiled) and the cat has been spread out on the counterpane all afternoon and evening so far. That thing LOVES fresh sheets. And if I have the high thread count ones on...that bed is hers! She rolls in it..spreads out..takes possession and looks like the opulent Lady she is. One thing for sure..she's pretty smart about my coughing. She starts out on my chest like a Sphinx. BUT when I am coughing so much and so hard, even though I grip both her sides to keep her from being (are you ready for this????) catapulted off into the air (I was hoping for a chance to say that!) she gets annoyed and slides off to my side. Now, first cough and she's up by my pillow, having given up any hopes of sleeping on me. But then, that helps me sleep better with her off to the side. Works for both of us.

So, I will set the clock and be off to Charlotte in the morning..I'll check the blogs while there. Be back Sunday late afternoon.

Honey, I'm Home Jan. -07

I made it to Charlotte, over the Mountains, no snow and back again and all in one piece!  I went because today is my middle son's birthday!  As with all my sons, I consider myself to be fortunate to be their mother...lucky to have them all.  Happy Birthday O Bright One of Three. Much love.

I hate to say this about my venerable older Saturn that went to a new home, but this new car is a LOT more comfortable than the Saturn was. And a lot less noisy. It's a 4 1/2 hr. trip, sometimes 5 hrs. depending on Charlotte traffic and whether there are any wrecks on I-40 or rock slides in the passes and I must say when i got there and on my return I felt a lot better than usual. Less beat up so to speak. It's a heavier car than my guy was, and quieter plus more smooth riding than I am used to. And, I only used half a tank of gas whereas the Saturn, with its good mileage used 3/4's of a tank. (one way) and this new car has a somewhat bigger engine plus it is a sports model. I'm happy!

UpNorthCindy brought up a great point. She assumed I would know and heed this advice without it coming from her, but it turns out a good thing she mentioned it in comments. In regard to the seeming (if not in fact) reinfection I seem to be suffering with this ever present upper respiratory virus...she asked if I had pitched the toothbrush? Not only had I not..but I should have pitched the Flonase...the Chap stick, and my lipstick as well. I KNOW that...why in the world I didn't DO it is beyond me. So, I am home now as of an hour or so ago, and I have already pitched the chap stick..about to toss the lipstick and the toothbrush knows its living on borrowed time! Thanks sis!!

Man alive, the cat was glad to see me return. I heard that wobbly meow as she was running thru the house to greet me. After I got things put away, she placed herself invitingly onto the rug I use as a "brushing station" for her. That girl must have changed from her Winter dress to her Spring one, as she (long haired) shed like no one's business. Of course, she hid from her sitter (my good friend..we swap cat caring duties when trips happen) so since she hid..she got no brushing and no playing. Her own stubborn fault.

I will see how I am tomorrow thru the day. If I am still no better I will head on back to the Dr. The coughing is what is getting me down. We'll see.

Here I will say thank you and I am very sincere, for the suggestions and thoughts regarding this viral thing. I appreciate it more than you know.

Have a great evening..I will too.

Good to be Home Jan '07

I could not be more pleased than I am to be here at home..errands and appointments done and in for the night while it rains outside. I can't complain about the rain. We have had 72 degrees here for several days running and in the 60's the rest of the time. I see on the news how so many in the Country are having to suffer the ice and snow storms. While traveling back here, I saw several caravans of Utility and Electrical workers. No doubt on their way to help out with severe outages in the rest of the Land. The guys are really great about that. They work so long and so hard to restore service and this is often hundreds of miles away from home. They are heroes in their own rights. I have been grateful to them on my own behalf several times. We are wont to tornadoes here as well as severe electrical storms.

This is the second year in a row I will have gone back to the optometrist a total of three times each to get the correct lenses for my glasses. All seems well on first try out till I see I am squinting at the television trying to read captions/words/figures. I have to get UP to see them. If enough houses fall on me..I finally get it! Hey, these glasses are wrong again. I got torqued off last year after three times and the first two they acted as though I were a moron not knowing how or where to look through the lenses. Heaven forbid that they were wrong (or the lab, either one). Got that worked out and when I went back this year..he had these huge changes going on for the new lenses saying my astigmatism had magnified. Not. So, I have already been back once. And today, I went again..I can still not see well at a small distance so I have been using my old lenses. (makes me wanna start with the contacts again...sigh!)

SO...I am standing by to see what he has done this third time. Again. Gee WHIZ!

So..who has had supper and if so, was it better than mine? If so, why didn't you invite me there?

Of Tops and Skirts Jan. '07

Wow. I sort of did it again. I saw this really cool looking navy with a little bit of white pattern chevron stripe fitted and flared at the hem, skirt. Well, it was a no-waist style, my favorite. Just zips up to the top..no buttons either. So, I HAD to have it. It will be cute with any and all of my white sandals. Just in case..I got this great top too. White, pearl snap buttons and fitted. Um. I needed those. Of course I did. They will look good in the new car, yeah, that's it.

Had a good workout this morning. I hated the last 8 minutes but I stuck it out. No music this time. It finally got cold here and will be for several days with the promise of snow showers as well. Now, granted it was cold when I stepped up onto the treadmill. A lot of you know it is next to the big living room window looking out onto the deck and into the woods of the back yard. I had the heat in the house turned off as I usually do while up there (I get so hot...no use adding to it with heat pouring out onto me while up there~) so what I saw a little while after I got off the treadmill was generated by me! What, you ask??? Well, believe it or not, the two windows right next to me as I am on the treadmill's belt were slightly fogged around the edges. A tribute to a HOT woman!!! I was doing a little sweating up there ( a LOT of sweating) and puffing and blowing too..so my body generated enough warmth beside the cold windows to fog them a little. Whatta woman, huh??? That tickled me. I came in here to do my weights with more of a smile than usual.

My cough seems to be disappearing on its own. It went from a tight ever present dry cough and pain in the neck to a little bit at bed time, and no more dry cough. A little more "productive" and today, I wasn't weak whereas yesterday, I don't know how I stayed on the treadmill I felt so watery legged.

Anyway, maybe it's well nigh over. I have changed toothbrushes..Flonase, chapstick and lipstick! It may have helped turn the tide!!! Thanks again, sis!!

I and a gentleman had lunch today. It was unexpected and fun too. I went to Wally World immediately following to spend money. Dang. You go in with "Have to get car wash stuff" in your mind and come out $126.00 later! Well, had to have that cute skirt and the top to go with it..some frozen entrees, water, Atkins bars, a couple cosmetic items and some hand cream. A girl has to live you know!

Love ya bye.

Ice anyone? Jan. '07

Seems as though we are finally about to be under the gun regarding ice and snow.
We are expecting snow flurries only today but after the weekend (with some flurries in between) there is the promise of 4, 5 days worth of snow and/or ice. I did pick a good time last weekend to go over the Mountains as it turns out. Had I waited until this weekend, I would be flat out of luck. There is snow and ice in the Mountains as I write this and plenty more on the way. I just sent my son a note (the one in Charlotte) asking where he was...school (he teaches) or home. He answered. He is at school.

That car of mine is so good on gas mileage that I am still driving on the tank of gas I got before I headed over to Charlotte last weekend!!! That is amazing. And I thought my Saturn was good ( and it was...just this one is even better!) I think in view of the weather I will go fill 'er up today. I don't have any friends scheduled to see today, just this evening, so may as well get some fuel for the car. Give me something to do.

I have done my duty on the treadmill. Just not as long as I would wish. A mile. Better than nothing. Did my weights. That was a lot more pleasant. I am so pleased with the progress I have made with the weights. I will never be what I used to be, a true power lifter, again. But I don't want to be. I don't think.
If the urge to power lift comes again, I'll join a gym and a team. It's the only way to go. I loved it back when I did it. The 12 hr. shift rotation killed any ideas of a regular workout as did the overtime. That is something that demands 4 hrs a day, 5 days at least, a week. One starts with circuit training for an hour or so then you go to the weight room. The brotherhood and sisterhood of Iron. (I was the only woman though at that time) (That has its advantages though..)  So, due to work, I had to quit working out.

It is 1100 hrs. and I am only just finishing getting ready for going out. Takes awhile to do the little workout, cool down, get cleaned up..do ones face and hair...THEN you get to go out. The morning is gone almost by then. I like it though.

Meanwhile, I hope everyone has a super day or failing that, a good one. :-)

Hope to see you soon.

Lift that Barge, Tote that Bale Jan. '07

I was about to get onto the treadmill...I WAS on the treadmill and had fired it up but hadn't started anything yet because I heard the phone ringing. Against my better judgment I answered and wound up on the phone for 53 minutes. Later,  I got the CD going, got back up and was putting my shoes on (I don't wear shoes in the house) and a heard a little sound. Miss Resident House Cat's little head popped out of her small "condo" with all of her in it. I have no idea how a big cat as she is can still cram herself into that tiny little hidy hole. Well, if she is in there...I don't want to disturb her beauty rest as her "condo" is right at the end of the treadmill, so I came in here and did weights instead.

However, cat slave that I am, still, I decided I had to do something. So the best thing that could, happened. I assessed to temp outside, put on my coat and took off up the street. Now let me tell you. A walk UP this street is nothing to be sneezed at. This is a very hilly (and dale-y town) And when you set out on a walk..you ain't kiddin'. It WILL be a workout walk, trust me, (why I want the treadmill).

I forgot to time my gasping and winded way up the street but I did remember to look at my cell phone (no way I could talk on that sucker and walk at the same time..whew!!!) when I turned around to come back. It was only a mile and six tenths. I'm embarrassed to say how long it took me to do it, but if you held a donut to my head I will admit 30 minutes! SIGH! So, it was a good thing to take on off up the hills. I need it. I am badly out of shape. Good thing I was doing all I did do 3 months before I took this outside walk or I would still be  out there struggling. The hills are what slowed me down. Treadmill is flat as a fritter. Ya need to be a mountain goat around here, believe me. When daddy visited he used to say "Man, you need toe claws to walk in this back yard!" And that's the truth. The boys lost many many many spherical objects if they batted them out beyond the chain link fence that I have to keep the wildlife out (HA! they come right on in!) (love my deer, foxes, coyotes, raccoons and everyone else who comes in and thru).

But I feel invigorated being out doors in the COLD (I had my hood up against the wind) and sun. I am dressed now to clean the house and I think I will let my pals on CD accompany me thru the rooms. Kitchen first. Git the rugs will ya and shake them out the kitchen door..not the deck door. There's a dear.

Turnabout Jan '07

Turnabout is fair play, the old saying goes. It will be my turn one day.

One of my blogging friends had a saying in her blog that went something like this..that you should always be more kind than necessary to others as they are going through things that are hard.

Of course, I try to do that anyway but it is too easy to forget extra kindness in the rush of everyday things. Unfortunately it is not always at the top of the mindset as you go about every day business. But with that timely reminder, it has remained at the top of my thought processes much better in this past several days. I've had a few chances to use it.

Already been up on the treadmill, did my weights and doing my face to head out. The rain has not frozen yet but the temp has dropped and it is 35 degrees now. So it's knocking at our town's door! If I want to get out and around, now is the time. Updated info says it will remain too warm for the much talked about ice storm here.

I have been on a fresh fruit thing for several weeks.  I will buy some more when I go out.  Not apples, pears, oranges but I am afraid it is summer and spring fruits I crave.  The only place I won't go is cherries.  I'll wait. $6.99 a pound..no, not even me.  Oh and for pete sakes...who knows how to eat a genuine pomegranate fruit?  Seeds?  Rind, neither?  Both?  What do you DO with the thing???

I have been around to see most and will continue when I get back into the house. Then you can ask me if I brought you anything while I was out. If you were good..then the answer is yes.

Doesn't it Get Your Goat Jan 07

Doesn't it get your goat when you are signed up on your State's Do Not Call list and have been forever, yet there are loop holes for businesses? IF they have a so-called "relationship" with you..meaning of course you are a customer of some sort, they are allowed to verbally spam you with their sales calls. And I know all of you have been subjected to spam-like calls from politicians during election months and charities. All three of these..and that is a LOT! are exempted from the telemarketing Do Not Call laws. That stinks.

I blogged several months ago about discontinuing my long distance service. I don't need it..it was costing me 6 or so bucks a month and I always used my cell phone. So, I called Bell Sou-th and told them I no longer wanted long distance. I had literally 7 or 8 calls a day and into the evening at 2100 hrs. from their overseas calling centers. I told a good friend of mine this morning that the total complete horrible massacre of my names made me the maddest! Don't call if you can't say the name..please. Even better still, leave that out! (name). Anyway, I was on 12 hr. rotating shifts so I was either at work or asleep most of the times they called. I can't to this day hear the phone in my room. I have never had it turned on. Who needs to be waked up...that was and is my philosophy and the kids are grown up plus they know where I live..and so on.

Anyway, I answered one night and said "Take me off your call list! I have informed you of this and I am documenting. If you call me again, you are in violation and will be fined $500.00". And that is true. Never heard from the suckers again. You have to TELL them. The point of this rant is: If you are on the Do Not Call list NO one should be allowed to call that is a business, political machine or charity. No one.

I got going on this as I am being targeted by the daily newspaper I read to buy on-line news coverage. I don't THINK so!!!!!! I was so torqued last night at 2000 hrs when they called that I failed to tell them to stop calling. I will though. As they will call again. I also wrote a scathing email to the editor of said newspaper.

I pay a decent amount of money to have a private unlisted and unpublished phone number. So stop already with the verbal spam.

The End! Doesn't it get your goat?  Jan 07

Ooops, I Did it Again Jan '07

All I wanted to do was walk some more. I had already been up on the treadmill, was bored and decided to go to the track. Well, for whatever reason (I will call the City tomorrow) the track is closed up tight. All fencing is padlocked. So with lower lip out I got grumpily into the car and did something I have never done yet, I went to the Mall to walk there. I just didn't want the treadmill with its forced incline. The Mall was better than nothing, I hoped.
Unfortunately no matter which end of the Mall you go into..there is an anchor store. In this case, there was JC Penn-ey. But...good diva that I am, I stalwartly strode quickly past the jeans in the Jr. Dept. though I looked hard as I went by and hesitated only barely. I have 40-50 prs. of jeans and don't need any more I told myself. (Has not worked in the past but it did this time).

Making my way to the door I headed out into the Mall..asked several what the length was if they knew, between Penn-eys and Be-lks. They gave their best guesses and they all seemed to agree more or less on distance so I took off, flames licking at the soles of my shoes I was so fast. Made it up to Be-lks..turned and headed back to Penn-eys. Dang....there in the window as I approached their door again was a dress! I sort of slid on into Penn-eys and just took a quick peek at the tops. I want you to know there was a top with wee ittle little tee tiny polka dots on it. Just specks they were so small. Adorable!!!! It had cap sleeves, and was fitted and had those like.."pleaty" looking things, even the cap sleeves had the "pleating". Reminded you of a broomstick type pleat but not quite. It was a well known brand. Silky too. I had to have it. I tried it on...I was lost. On my way back out..I again passed by the Jr. jeans and kept on going BUT I stopped in Intimates. I got an eyelet lace something, underwire of course, and then, when she rang up that and the top..I finally woke up to there was a 70% off sale going on. I hadn't paid any attention. That $45.00 top was 70% less than I expected! The eyelet whatever was only $7.50 thanks to the 70% off. I saw a black knit V neck top that I had paid $24.00 for a couple months ago, now 70% off. So, I got another.

I took off like a big bird and headed out into the Mall again for another go round, fast as my legs could carry me. Scortch marks on the flooring from the swiftness of my passage! I admit to looking at the shoes at Be-lks. I may have even tried on several pair but I virtuously left without buying any. I will tell you this however. Next time should I go there to do another walk again, I will leave money behind. My drivers license and my keys. That's it (she said).

All in all a fun time. Probably in there a good hour with the generous stop offs for... um..looking.

Like how my hair looked too...shining like a newly minted penny. So, 70% off sale and a good hair day! What's not to like?

Well see, it was like this... Jan '07

OK. I hit the treadmill this morning right off the bat. Just hated every minute this time (so like yesterday) and did my weights instead after just 10 minutes on the treadmill. I think I mentioned that this is a less expensive treadmill than the one it replaced and therefore one cannot change the angle. It is permanently on a slant. So, hating it, I got off, did my weights as I said and got dressed and headed out the door to the Mall with my iPod and NO wallet this time. Well, it was in the glove box of the car. But it was just me and the iPod this time IN the Mall.

I must say I did great. 40 minutes without stopping there at the Mall and ten minutes here. However. And that is a significant "however" I happened..just happened to notice a white cropped jacket. Double breasted, little so-called military look to it (you know how I am about that! Love love love!!!) But cropped near waist level..just above. Wide lapels, large white buttons...detailing on the sleeve...what's a woman to do? Go get the wallet out of the glove box! 70% off for pity sakes! This ought to do well for skirts (with or without a shell under) jeans (I have 45 pr. or so after all) whatever!

I made a big pot of vegetable beef soup a few days ago and this afternoon, I have about finished it up. I was hungry on return to the house. That and a quick read of the newspapers brought me to an upright position wanting to do more walking. But not on the treadmill. Maybe up the hill IF it gets a little warmer.

I have a wee little piece of chicken to cook tonight for supper. Just that and a veggie will do me. I don't think anyone will be knocking down the door to have supper with me when I tell the menu!

I think I have been around to see most everyone. Hope it has been as good a day for you as it has for me..and tomorrow IF I go back to the Mall..it will be to the Be-lks end..not JC Penn-eys!!! That way, I will just see it as I approach and turn at its doors. But a little cropped jacket...you have to have that!!!

Goody's has a sale. I threw the darn circular out. Oh and were there flames coming out from under my shoes this morning as yesterday? Darn tootin'. You should have been there! Race ya if you do show up!

Many Happy Returns Jan '07

Nope. No one's birthday and I ain't takin' nothin' back! BUT I did return to the Mall in which Penn-ey's is now touting 75% off! I walked through the store as if I were on fire and hoping the air of my passage would put it out; made it thru to the exit and was in the hall before I knew it. There I put on the earphones and iPod and hit the walkway. I had done 20 minutes on my new treadmill this morning here at the house..couldn't stand it, and got dressed and headed out.

Did a LOT fitness wise at the Mall this morning as I did yesterday morning and the day before. No, I am not talking about buying , you meanie! I mean distance and time. So fast a pace I actually have the beginnings of shin splints.

I admit to giving some thought to camo sweat pants I had seen on my way out of the Mall (the so-called yoga style) but left the area!!I reminded myself I have the real thing in pants and shirts and jackets..why buy fake? Though that did not stop me from buying a cute cap (women's) that was newsboy style, and camo pattern. But that was before Christmas.

So, the Mall and my wallet are unscathed. That is the end of the continuing saga of " what will she buy next!?" I have looked the store over and nothing else interests me.

I will spend a little time stretching my legs. They are compact muscular little short things and need to be stretched before I get into some real pain. I have an engagement at 1630 today and tomorrow will be filled, particularly the evening..so I have to get done what needs to be done before than.

I have been around to see you...hope to see you here. Have some soup. Still have a couple bowlsful left. Good, too.

P.S. While picking up another local newspaper for me and some for the family (my 3rd son took the picture featured in living color on the front page! Proud Mom wanted to get a few papers for us) I stopped in a gift shop and while there looked at the stuffed Beanie Babies and some Japanese stuffed toys as well. They had a shark. He is about 6 inches long..and he has an open mouth,,not too far..but guess what his teeth are??? Rickrack! Oh I LOVE it. I had to have him. A shark with rickrack teeth!!!!! Is that not wonderful!!!???

What a Great Day Jan '07

Of course every day is a great day! But this one has been fun. One, I did no fitness at all except weights. No walking, trotting..nothing. Shins still hurt but they had better get over it tomorrow, as they are hitting the road again, then.

Just came back from the afternoon and dinner out and had a great time. We were, the two of us (women) hitting the shops in a rather foo foo Mall in The Big City. I tried on several items. A denim mandarin collared cropped jacket. Oh it fit GREAT! $60.00 so I carried it around and eventually hung it back up as I was headed to Old Na-vy next! LOVE that place!! Didn't want to spend 60 needless dollars on that cute jacket if Old Na-vy had anything better. They didn't as far as tops and jackets were concerned but oh wow, they sure had some camo roll-up pants. What can I do but snap a pair up? Cute too. Can you believe, a little buckle in the back? However I did not go back for the denim cropped jacket bad as I would love to have had it. One...I don't need another jacket no matter how cute. Two... I bought a buttery soft leather one in Charlotte not 2 weeks ago; not to forget the white cropped jacket I DID get on sale at Penn-eys a couple days ago while in the Mall here. So, we escaped with just the one pr. of camo pants for me, nothing for her...and those pants are already rolled and waiting on me tomorrow when I go out. And wow did we have a great dinner. We went to some place called whatever...forgot the name, Cafe. I wasn't impressed till I got in there..saw the place ( rather nice~!) and the food is to die for. We needed wheel barrows for our bellies.

Meanwhile when I came home, the cat rolled off the recliner to ask where the heck I had been all those hours...she was even checking her watch. So, I fed her, turned on all the lights for us both and asked her to remember that I went out today long before I left and got her a new taller scratching post..the rope kind she likes..at $30.00. She probably was thinking "who asked ya to?"

Now, my proud mom news headline. Not only was 3rd son's picture he took (it's a hobby of his) featured on the front page of the newspaper BUT second son is now officially a Fulbright Scholar. He requested Prague or Hungary or the United Kingdom. First son brought my poetry and short stories back from the ether dead from a scrapped 3 yr. old computer by using, besides his huge knowledge, a product called DNA. I am back in business!! No one but him could have or would have...guaranteed.

Hope you all have had as great a day as we have had. You deserve to.

On the Road Jan '07

Back out to exercise some more. Didn't even bother with the treadmill. I will HAVE to sometimes when the weather is bad or whatever. Just it is galling to have to go slower (till I get used to the angle)

Enjoyed the Mall time and nope..didn't come home with a thing. Hit the grocery store right afterward and could not wait to get home with everything as I was sweaty for the exertion and wanted a shower and a change of clothes. I bought a much needed pair of New Bal-ance shoes however. My shoes I am using for treadmilling or outside are rather worn. Someone mentioned that I may have started hurting some in the shins due to a lack of support and I remembered when I used to run how I had to be careful to change out running shoes every several hundred miles. So, stopped..tried on one of a pair...you can tell where I am going with this..major mistake. Don't be in a hurry. Try on BOTH shoes in the pair. I did the right shoe. Felt fine. I even walked in it for awhile. Got home..tied on both of them and voila! Quel horreur! The left shoe felt like a vise on my left foot! What's more, there is a rough spot that is not sewn well inside the shoe near the great toe, that rubbed. A bad pair, or defective pair rather, of shoes. Back they go tomorrow. What a pain in the neck but...who didn't put them both on in the shoe store? That would be me.

Meanwhile I will search the um...well...um...er...several pairs of shoes on the closet floor..however many that may be..and see if I can come up with another pair to hold me till I find a newer pair. (I am a shoeaholic..reformed)

Supposed to have snow flurries and snow showers tomorrow or tonight perhaps. Should not stop me from coming down my mountain but...you never know. In which case it's me and the treadmill.

Hope you all had a fruitful and good day.

One More For The Road Jan '07

If someone hits your vehicle with or without you in it, seems as though many times that "hitter" does not have any insurance. Of course, that's why the rest of us carry (at our expense, of course) uninsured driver coverage. Hardly fair but you know what they say about fair...life ain't.

Nothing has happened to me in recent times, but it has happened to the family from time to time. One son, while a teenager, was sitting at a traffic light and some moron plowed right into him from behind. The other guy must have been going pretty darn good too as my son wound up with two black eyes from the impact and some fancy bruising from the seat belt he was wearing. Didn't do the back of his vehicle which he paid for himself much good, either!! Of course the other guy did not have insurance. (Quel suprise!) It was an old car, so the son couldn't get anything really from insurance (ours) and that left US with having to secure another vehicle for him. At our expense of course! Then there was the time when a son was visiting me, and his new car was parked across the street (so I could get out at 0430 to go to work) and, of course, some silly young woman came careening down the hill too close to the line of vehicles, and wham! right into the left rear side of my son's new car! Did she have insurance??? Of course not! My son's insurance had to bear the burden.

Those are just two examples of being victimized by people who have no sense of responsibility. There is no excuse whatsoever for driving and driving carelessly at that, without insurance. We who have insurance must draw on our insurance companies to pay for the accidents we didn't cause. No, that doesn't go against us (I don't think...you never know these days!) but it's a claim nonetheless and the (your) insurance company pays it..which in turn passes the 'gift' back to us all (we consumers) in the form of higher rates.

I know...there are arguments about insurance companies. There are thoughts and rants about "well, we pay all those high premiums..." etc. etc. etc. I can't and won't get into that. My little rant today is about those who think they have an excuse to go out on the highways and drive without insurance..force us who get victimized by them to have to buy a new car on our own nickel as insurance won't pay a whole lot if the car isn't just off the showroom floor. Forces us to the Dr. with injuries many times..and we wind up paying co- payments...and so on. You know the drill. They, on the other hand get right back in their uninsured car whistling as they go their merry way.

He Made Me An Offer I Couldn't Refuse Jan '07

Picture it. Here I am headed to 3rd son's house in The Big City when I saw him on the side of the roadway downtown. I have picked him up quite a few times and it was (and still is) colder'n wiz here today plus the wind is about 22 mph all day (as well as tonight, by the way). Cold front coming with freezing rain and snow by Thursday. But I digress. There he was, on the side of the road..a good 7 miles from where he lives. I sighed and I stopped..unlocked the door and beckoned him into the car. I couldn't take a chance on no one stopping and so it was worth it to me to do so even if I was headed 17 miles away.

Before you reach out and try to teach me a lesson, and some of you may already know who this is..it's my 86 year old gentleman who lives way on up the street from me. He walks to downtown or wherever he needs to go and hitches back.

So, he held my purse since "Mildred always puts her purse on my lap" he said of his wife when they drive anywhere, as we, he and I, glided on up the hills to his house, well past my place.

What offer, you may be asking, was I referring to? Well, John C. is a member still, of the Smoky Mountain Hiking Club and by golly, that feller gets out and hikes!!! 86 and he is still a hiker!!! And I whine about the treadmill! Offer...Oh, OK. His offer was we, the two of us or whomever we gather will hike the North Trail here in the town I live. My sons know where part of that trail is...they saw it each time they started their paper route up there on you-know-what Ln. So, I happen to think that is a great idea. I remember doing it as a young mother with some friends..and believe me, it ain't easy. Remember, I have always told you this place is extremely hilly and they don't call where he and I would start out "Skyline" for nothing!!!

So, I am letting him be an inspiration to me and he'll out -do me for a little while. As daddy used to tell me and my brothers "It'll do you good and help you besides!" anytime he made us do a tasking, I will be thinking of that as I gasp my way through the Trail. I am looking forward to it. I'll wear my combat boots as I have nothing else suitable and there are snakes galore on the Trail..so not wearing light shoes.

Thought I'd tell you I picked up a hitch hiker..he even has my phone numbers! He's a cool old dude..believe me. I am sure Mildred won't mind.
