Wednesday

I can't tell you how nice it was to read words of support for my 13 year old baby.  From the heart, thank you so much.

She has recovered mostly from the horrible trauma of being there away from home so long a time for the first time in her life.  She was so exhausted, truly, when she came home she slept like she was unconscious for 15 hours.  Today, she came with me quite frankly into the bathroom when I got up.  That's when I just got on the bathroom floor with her and she got the first petting and kissy love she'd had in several days.  She was purring so loud she sound like a boom box blasting.  However, she's still barely eating and as I may have said, she lost an entire pound in 36 hours.  Maybe things will normalize.

I hope to come see you too.  The boys are still here and I am still waiting on the little tyrant here.

Trouble here at the house for now

Hoping all of you had a good Christmas and a good week so far.

The boys, 2 of them, are still here which is a good thing as during the day it distracts me somewhat from the fact that my little one is in the Veterinary Hospital for an unknown (yet) ailment.  I am waiting for a call from the Vet to see what  the calcium levels are as her blood was sent to the Veterinary School at the University of Tennessee for a double check as it is highly unusual for calcium levels to be high.

Meanwhile, I will see you at your blog houses soon..I'm so sorry to be late.

Sunday, Day After Christmas

Hi all of you.  I came around to see you and wish you a Merry Christmas before Christmas.  Here it is the day after and I am still spinning around as though I was in a washing machine I am so busy.  I couldn't even assist the Admiral in her blog until today and since she has a goodly number of furry friends, namely 100, I am helping her to go visit her furriends.

I was just asked to go look at the Christmas lights all over town..so see you soon and I will visit as soon as I can'

Ready, Aim, SNOW!

Merry Christmas tomorrow to all of my friends.

We are expecting snow.  That is lovely but it will make it hard for the rest of the family to get up here to the house.  We will see how that part of it goes when it happens.

Have a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas.  I hope you will be like us and go out to see the lights on homes and business if you haven't already.

Torpid Tuesday

It's cold..it's cloudy, there's a drizzle. Ugh. BUT there is no ice and no snow. At least not now. All bets are off for Christmas though. I don't like that really as it will make it hard for my boys to get here Christmas day, I live on a hill in a hilly town. Romantics love snowy Christmas's. Nice but hard to travel in.

Meanwhile, my honey baked ham should be in the store by now. There is a satellite distributor here in my town this year and that is where I will go get it, I won't have to travel all the way to the 'big city' as I call it to pick one up with 3 policeman directing traffic for folks wanting to get into the honey baked store. That happened once to one of my sons who went to pick it up and he and I vowed, never ever again even if that means having to do without..which we have done..without. Some things aren't worth the hassle.

I slept great all night long with no disturbance until 6. I laid there anyway till almost 7. Not without a lot of meows from a fainty and starving cat who wanted her canned food. Her dry food just WILL NOT DO when sunrise occurs, you see.

Boys will be here Wednesday. YEA!!!

The evening

Going out to dinner tonight and wishing I weren't.  I am overcome with sleepiness and for once. it's not her fault.  Matter of face, when I gave up at 0450, she was shocked and asked me what in the world I was doing up!

I had taken a phone call rather late in the evening and should not have as it lasted a bit and it took away the down time I would have had to compose myself for sleep.  So, by the time I got to bed and I was already perishing for sleep..I laid there wide awake with burning eyes (hate it when that happens) for quite some time thinking over the conversation and so on.  I tossed and turned all night and gave up extremely early.  I was tempted to cancel dinner out this evening but I have decided to try anyway.  But the circles under my eyes will be embarrassing.

Meanwhile my honey baked ham should be in tomorrow morning long about 11 or so, and it will be ready for Christmas day.  I think I will bake the orange cake on Christmas Eve.

Just checking in before the day wanes on.  Hope your day was good and that you're looking forward to some good food to come soon.  :-)

One of my favorite streets and intersections in uptown Charlotte.  Everything is so clean and pretty.

Saturday Night

Saturday night and not too exciting. As a matter of fact I took a ridiculously early shower, and I have my jammies on. Apparently that's what I want to do. I have been busy all day, and I was busy yesterday afternoon..well, all day off and on, and certainly into the evening. Busy again today and I ran out of steam as I have been extremely short on sleep for some time. It more than catches up with me at times. Today is one of those. I may hit the sack at 9.

At least I haven't been trounced too badly in Scrabble, what with multiple games going on. I have the board edition to play during everyone's Christmas break. Yup friends, we are a barrel of excitement around here.

Thank you so much for your comments on the birdy and ice pictures. The birdy was in Missy's blog and the car coated with ice in my own. She naturally had dibs on the birdy for her blog. I put the cardinal into Flickr tonight. This time, I gave it to the Admiral to use first!

Horst if you see this I am SO glad that you tried the roasted chicken and potato recipe. Kea, Horst and JennyD have been brave. I have the ingredients and we're gonna roll it out for supper Christmas eve!!

Guys, I hope you are all well, and have had a good day. I will see you again and ♥♥♥

Fun Friday for the little one here

The girl gets to have my son visiting tonight.,.her human brother, and that's always a treat for both of them./ Last time he was here, she had just come back from the v-e-t and she was miserable and sick. No smooches for her as she was hiding.

This time, she can have zillions of smooches and kissies because she feels good again. I don;t know how she has a fur on her head and sides she gets so many kisses from me..and when he gets here, she gets more.

All of my sons are "cat men" having been raised by them. =^..^=

The ice is all gone. Thank goodness as I needed to go out and get some food for tonight's dinner. We are having a casserole. Smells heavenly. I was going to make chili and changed my mind at the last minute.

What's for dinner at your house?

My Goodness...Ice!

Here's the car. We got the promised freezing rain. I had a bad feeling this morning as I was looking at my email. The power "stuttered" for half a heartbeat and then, did that again four times. I thought that I was in for a freezing inside of the house rest of the day but so far, so good.

There is a front coming up from the Gulf and it is raising temps above freezing so we have a chance of nothing but normal rain from this point on.

I live on a steep hill but even if I did not, no way would I go onto the streets. They are all "a solid sheet of ice".

To better weather..here's me raising my coffee cup to you.

Anticipation!

My goodness. I remember being SO excited when Christmas Eve arrived. I was so wound up and excited about what would be under the tree I could hardly stand it. I would lie there awake for hours, or so I thought. Seemed like hours to me. I'd be up at the crack o' dawn. If it was still dark out, daddy made me go on back to my room for a bit but I was up and down like a jack in the box so usually, he caved and turned the lights on, on the tree.

.I remember one Christmas when I was just turned twelve I wanted skates so badly I would have laid down and just swooned if I didn't get them. I have had two older brothers..much older, and the youngest of the two living at home of course and had me convinced I would never get those skates, that they were too expensive. So I opened several gifts Christmas morning, feeling gloomy, and my brother passed a rather large box to me and said to open that one next. It was heavy but that meant nothing to me..I didn't have any guesses. I just knew that I was disappointed and the world was at an end. No skates.

Of course, when I opened it, there they were. A beautiful white leather pair of Chicago skates. I thought I had, as the phrase goes, died and gone to heaven. I was thrilled past telling and called all my school friends. I went skating that very next weekend. Mind you, I had to learn how to skate and I dislocated my thumb doing that. I jammed it into the waist area of another skater coming in the opposite direction. H-U-R-T. He led me over to where they rented skates to those who didn't have magnificent Chicago white leather skates like MINE and the Manager of the place said "gimme your hand" which I obeyed and did and he pulled it back into place. OWWWW! But it was worth it. Purple thumb and all.

My brother taught me how to clean them..break them down a bit and clean and oil them just right. He and his girl friend (who became his wife) used to go there all the time too and skate so I never got to flirt much with the boys as he always had an eagle eye out for me. Man, I hated that!

That's a whole 'nother blog though.

Santa Claws and Santa Claus

Santa's Claus and Claws have been here with lots of stuff for all three of my sons and for the household's Boss.  Her stuff started a few months ago. My gosh, there is a huge leaf and lawn bag..one of those big dark green ones filled to overflowing in there, the spare room, a regular sized paper shopping bag full up..wait..two of those are full and..two stand alone..no three stand alone bags and/ or boxes too.  There will be more to come.  That's just from me and the boy's Dad.  They'll be here and bring their gifts too.  The boys love lotsa things.  That hasn't changed just because their adults.  :-) ♥♥♥

Meanwhile, I'm beginning to get a little Christmas spirit.  I haven't gotten any decorations of any sort whatever up and won't until the 22nd. (the cat).

Meanwhile I am still staying strictly away from candy/cake/pie and so on.  My  tea cookies are the German made butter ones.  6 for 110c. This is about a month now I think.  I do need to ramp up my protein intake though.

JennyD, SO glad you all liked the dinner.  Sis, you made it more to your liking with soy sauce.  I hope it was something you enjoyed eating.   It is so easy to do I will make it yet again for the only son who hasn't tried it yet.  He'll be here late on the 22nd.

It was 8 degrees F when I got up this morning and will plunge again from the 20 degrees it managed to make it up to.  Ice on the less traveled roads and so school was out these two days.  Freezing rain up next tomorrow night.  Sigh.  I went out and got food for me and her. We're set.  Boy am I glad I don't smoke any more.  I always used to smoke outside long before that became what you HAD to do.  I did that so the kids didn't have to smell and suffer with cigarette smoke plus the trapped odor in a house is atrocious.
I couldn't sleep in that smell and thanked goodness my home was fresh smelling though I got wet and cold standing outside as well as hot and sweaty.  :-) All over for the past going on 5 years.

Ciao,  xoxox

Snowy Monday

My goodness..we were supposed to have just 2-3 inches of snow but that turned out to be twice as much. Luckily the street are clear so no problems. They got out early to scrape. I haven't swept off my car yet. I never have had the benefit of a garage and so many times I have wished I could. My property is on a slant and not easily built upon if I wanted a garage built, nor do I have the money for that.

I was rousted out f bed really early, 0555, and decided not to fight having to get up. I just did and fed her Majesty. Sigh,. Better than she has been so I won't complain.

I hope Jenny has an enjoyable meal with her friend regarding the roasted chicken and red potatoes. As I said before, I will say it again. (We women are like that..drats!) if you substitute ingredients, you are on your own. I can only say the recipe I put here in the blog was super good.

Meanwhile here is a snow picture. xox You might need to biggafy.

It's Saturday!!

I enjoyed going to another new blog (to me) Mr. Shag I believe his name is.  There he wrote a long and well written piece on childhood predators.  I suppose more children have those un-nerving and sometimes fatal encounters.  We children were always taught to obey adults and we were loathe not to, regardless of our own instincts and fears.  I imagine each of us might have a story to tell in that regard.

As a mother to three sons I did all I knew how to do to make them aware and to always tell me whatever troubled them.  They had the confidence in me to take care of any situation that needed taking care of as they grew older..partly because of my career and perhaps partly because I knew who to call for additional help if needed. It's hard, it was for me because I cherished them so much,  to keep the cotton batting off of them and let them experience life- but you must let them slip out of your parental iron grip as they learn, if they are to grow.  But caution is needed and two listening ears and two seeing eyes from the parent(s) are mandatory.  Never ever ever cast them out into the largely uncaring world to "experience life" when it can be so seamy. Arm them up first with all they need to know and be a beacon they can turn to.

Hm..serious topics for a Saturday, I have to say.

Hot Time in the Ol' Tub Tonight, I guess.

My neighbors took delivery of a pretty big hot tub today. I hope they remain good neighbors and don't make a lot of outside noises (music) because of it when I am trying to sleep at night. (my room's walls are within a few feet of the property line on that particular side of my house. The rest, there's forest and the other house is far enough away.)

I won't get really started but it always amazes me that hardly anyone stops to think..either in the next car, the next house, whatever, that their choice of music may not be what YOU want to hear assuming you wouldn't mind hearing any.

This will likely be the last sunny day as rain is supposed to come in tonight and through tomorrow with it changing to snow and blustery winds Sunday.

I went downtown this mid morning and there was a car parked in the parking lot with it;s windows completely covered, all of the windows in curses and the painters opinion of the owners lack of personal integrity and lack of morals. I had a feeling some female did that as it was awfully neat and it did paint the owner a certain name that denotes a male. Sure enough when I left Penney's there was this skinny young male standing there with a chagrined look on his face. He had the doors opened so I wonder if there was something inside as well.

Vandalism pure and simple. First time I have ever seen anything like that.

Someone else has tried the roasted chicken and red potato dish and likes it a lot. That is pleasing to read.

Supper and then, today. Woo.

Youngest came for supper which once again, that chicken dish is very appreciated! He took home the leftovers. Hr went over the computer with a fine toothed comb and there just isn't any spyware or virus or trojan horses on it. Someone somewhere just decided to use my personal email addy for spam. It's the personal one that I usually keep private except for maybe 4 bloggers. BUT the spammers will be in for a surprise soon as I am buying another Mac. Nothing can infect it. Not that I have an infection now but I always have to worry about it with a PC. Once I get my new Mac, those days are over again. (yes, I have all the stuff on my PC to protect it..just a shame it has to be so much).

AND I will go thru the trouble of completely changing my email address and I'll have to notify my friends. That's a pain.

I didn't get trounced yesterday- but my son won Scrabble by 1 point! Gave him a run for his money. :-)
I have two re-matches going on right now.

I will say I went out with my camera and stopped by THE big box store and asked permission to take pictures, close-ups, of their fruit and they said no. They said it was against company policy. Sigh. Can't even take a picture of the strawberries.

I have been making my way around.

The Games Continue

I am not getting as thoroughly whipped at Scrabble as I was.  I have stepped up to the plate and won a few despite my youngest's expertise and familiarity with words I thought were illegal but are not.  So now..I am much more armed and ready to slice and dice him whenever I can.   Thanksgiving, I was warring against two of them at once and then, the grandson chimed in.  I was trying to take it easy on him, consequently the little beastie WON!

The cat said she is not up to par yet but she is better than she was.  Those flea meds knocked her plumb out of the ball park.  I will donate the rest to whomever can use them.  They'll never touch her again.

I have been excellent with what I am eating these past several weeks.  Had I known the chicken fangers were THAT bad, I would not have had them..I don't think.  But honestly I could not swear I wouldn't.  :-)  But it's mostly  fruit and veggies and soup and whole grains..oh...and peanut butter.  My jeans are a faint bit looser.

Just checking in.  See you on the flip side.

Monday!!

Man, did you know that a chicken fingers platter with french fries and coleslaw is 1770 calories?  This is at a restaurant whose name starts with A.  I had the chicken and the coleslaw but I asked them to leave off the fries as I never eat them anyway.  So, my lunch was about a thousand calories.  I will definitely think that over next time.  They changed their menu choices again.  You never know what they'll have.  And I didn't want a giant huge burger that you have to unhinge your jaw to get a bite of.  Don't like salads (I know..that's un American) so unless I wanted a steak (no, not for lunch) or a gigantor burger or salad..it was chicken fingers.  When I got home, I went to their website and whoa nelly!  BUNCHA calories.

So glad that we had snow showers yesterday.  PRETTY.  We enjoyed being out in them. But I have a bunch of things to get accomplished this morning and I am in the process of getting ready to go out.  It's up to 26 degrees now.  Scraping will be in order. ;-)

Happy that Kea tried the recipe I put in the blog several days ago and she also put it in her blog. I swear, it's one of the better tasting foods I have ever made.  The youngest is coming to dinner Wednesday so I get to smell that heavenly smell again and best of all, have some more.  All of the mentioned spices are dried.  Just take them out of the bottles.

The Admiral had a rough couple of days and she has already posted today.  So I need to get over there and assist her in  visiting her friends.

That Dinner

That dinner was pronounced good by the oldest who was here and the first of the boys to taste it.  I also made him brownies which believe it or not..I did NOT have a single one.  I have half a pan to the next door neighbors and he took the rest home with him this afternoon.

The little one is still mad at me and I don't blame her.  The Vet dragged her through the wringer yesterday but it had to be done.  No wonder she hates going so badly. She has had an improved appetite though and for that I am pleased as she lost close to half a pound.  That's a lot for a 10 pound cat.

Cold as can be out there and rain all night and day.  Maybe it will taper off tomorrow and I can get out ..wait..I will be out.  Having lunch out with someone.  In Knoxville.  Looking forward to that.

I have invited the youngest for the same meal next weekend.  Looking forward to that.  The chicken and potatoes were truly good. Please give it a try.

I just deleted what else I was going to say as it was a rant on behalf of animals who are at the mercy of humans.  I'll speare you and myself as well.

Man, TGIO..Thank Goodness It's Over

Thank goodness it's over.  Got the cat to the Vet and she ought to be feeling a LOT better now.  Her blood levels were good and all of her additional procedures were done so she's in good shape and I'm being made to pay for it as she is hiding now that we are home.

I just made this dish and I am giving you the recipe because it is falling down DELICIOUS!!!  Let me know if you try it.  I have already nipped some potatoes out of it..heaven.  I made it for my boy..and also some brownies.  He'll be here tonight.

Roasted Chicken w/ red Potatoes:

2 teaspoons Paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons crushed rosemary leaves
1 teaspoon minced garlic (dry is fine)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
6 bone in skinless chicken thighs (about 2 pounds)
1 1/2 pounds red potatoes, diced into small cubes or chunks.

Throw all the ingredients into a large bowl and using a couple of wooden spoons, coat it all with the spices.  Toss to coat them all well.

Arrange it all in a flat layer in a 15x10x1 pan that you lined with foil and sprayed with cooking spray.

(the foil..spray the foil)

Roast in a 425 degree pre-heated oven for about 30 minutes or until the chicken is throughly cooked and the potatoes tender.

It took me about 35 minutes..I tried a few potatoes..oh.my.word!  DEElicious.

Not a good day, in a way.

I was doing a bit more Christmas shopping and went to put my purchases into the car's trunk.  The key turned in the lock but that was it.  No pop of the lid opening.  I tried several more times..nothing.  I tried the lever inside the car and it was as though it had already been used as it was loose feeling and did nothing.  I stopped where I go on occasion to ask if they could raise the trunk lid.  I was shocked that they wanted $24.00 just to look at that.  But I was perilously close to bending the only key I have, so...I said OK.  They took it into the bay and the lock assembly actually is broken...where the key goes in.  Danged if the cable on the manual part isn't bad too.  I did get to see both.  The cost is what flabbergasted me.  They had to call the dealership as there is no aftermarket for my year of vehicle easily found.  That will have to be sent over from the big city, the parts that is.  The parts, the labor and our may- a- well say 10% sales tax brought the grand total to $289.00!  They tried to tack on a fee for "supplies" which I refused.

All you men out there..I can't do it myself so please don't tell me how wrong, stupid, or anything else I am.  I hurt enough as it is.  What a time of year to have to pay so much money.

Christmas Spirit

Or something.  I had to list what I have been getting this entire year and for whom and get it down on paper.  Doing that it follows that one wraps while they're out.  So, I have that done for up to now.  I have 2 gift cards to buy.  One for the oldest as he has all he needs now.  And one for the grandson.  He is too particular so a gift card it'll be. Feels good to have the info on hand and to have that chore out of the way.l.not that it's an unpleasant chore..I rather like it.

This has been day three of not eating whatever I want whenever I want and I am making progress.  My best deal for me and success is to log food.  Been doing it for years before it ever became popular. I still sort of eat what I want..just no sweets and dessert-like things.  My jeans already button and zip easier.  I seem to be eating a lot of soup. My treat is a cup of the hard-to-find cherry tea and 6 butter cookies (130 c.)

There were a few snow flurries this morning.  It's colder'n who done it out there and windy.  But the sun came out around noon and that helps even if it is in the 30's.  Beats Montana weather, huh Joe?

My goodness, last night I was watching TV!  That alone is rare but I saw The Jefferson's, Room 221, Andy Griffith Show..Mayberry, that is.  I saw the sitcom with JJ and Florida and John..can't think of its name.  And..ol' Archie Bunker and Co.  It was a 1970's night apparently.  I actually kept the TV on and watched some of it in between reading. Oh, and Sanford and Son too. Those clothes, the hairstyles and even the glasses they wore were SO funny looking!!

I enjoyed and agreed with the input to my yesterday's blog. Thank you for the thoughts you expressed and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who feels its all slipping away from us.  It seems to be getting so no one feels really comfortable about sticking their hand up..or.. standing up and saying  "Wait a minnit!  This isn't going to work!"  Everyone pretty much knuckles.  I'm a pot calling the kettle black because I don't see ME making a big deal and writing my Senator (HA!!!) or anything else. Anyway...it was a rant and I wanted it off my chest.
