Typo Queen

Kitties and Woofies, Boys and Girls, Ladies and Gentlemen!

I am reading a book that has taken grit I had to summon, for me to get close to half way through.  There is enough interest generated in the husband and wife main characters to make me grit my teeth and keep on, as I want to know how the male character does what he does.  My interest was piqued in the last 50 pages I have read so my determination to read on has seemed to pay off. So far only once have I seen a glaring error.  There are the words peek, peak, and pique.  One doesn't have ones interest peaked.  Or peeked.  'Nuff sed. Apparently, hiring an editor is passé these days.  Neither publisher nor author care to do that.  It would seem from the splendid array of grammatical errors in books I have read that unless they are written in the years under 1970 they will have many errors.  They still used editing then...before 1970.    Even mis-use of there, their, they're seem common nowadays.  I won't speak of Face Book by the way, except to say comments are, um...well...unique many times.

I love Gilbert Morris historic novels.  LOVE them.  Soon as I get this present novel I am reading finished, I will go retrieve my next Gilbert Morris book which I  set by, to use as a reward for just getting up for the day.  I love his works and I am grateful he was so prolific in his writing.

But I spoke in my title of "typos".  NO one could possible make as many typos as I do. I have no idea how I continue to do that despite reading over what I said (many times...but not all the time).  I will just go on not seeing many of them and the moment I hit "send" there they are...leaping off the screen smacking my face.   Messages or texts are a challenge to me.  I can NOT make even one without errors because spell correct has, as one of our bloggers states at the bottom of her emails..."Spell correct has a mind of its own".  Or words to that effect.  Oh, and "effect" and "affect"...oy vey!  Not me, but in books etc.  Synonyms are many folks worst enemy apparently.  I made friends with them from fourth grade up.  It was fun.  Good teachers help.

Hey, I'm going in there to read an hour and decide what is for supper.  If you like it, come on over.  Hint.  Oven roasted veggies. (MY mouth is watering.  I LOVE veggies. And cooked are my fave.  Not a fan of always crunching them though I certainly do.  Let's go look in the fridge.

This was atop my trash can a few years ago.  See?  We do have snow here in TN.  So many people seem surprised.  See ya in the kitchen...HA!  I'll be first in there!

Thinking Back

Only just turned fifteen years old. And the world belonged to me because every day  of life was new and different.  Everything pointed toward me in those days, I fancied.  Most fifteen year old girls probably do know the sun is shining on them only during the special time of growing and learning and gaining experience and knowledge.

I was standing in the summer warmth of my room with the closet door open trying to decide what to wear.  I made my decision  after a long time to wear my black taffeta dress that rustled enticingly when I walked... with its full skirt.  Just right for a young girl.    Sleeveless,  and a scoop neck with a fitted bodice zippered in the back.  My black high heels, my nylons, my beautiful petticoat that only I knew was there.  A generous amount of the 5 and 10 cent store perfume I bought for the occasion. A costume jewelry "gold" necklace  and hoop earrings and...I was finally ready.  My red hair was caught back into a low pony tail. My face  decorated with dark eyebrow pencil on my blonder than blonde brows, and the only mascara available..black...on my  extremely blonde lashes.  Milky white skin with some freckles, and some lipstick.  Startling looking, but satisfying to a 15 year old girl going to The Music Circus; a very famous venue. And I was fortunate enough to live in the town that housed it.

I  no longer  remember who drove me there.  I couldn't walk the mile and a half in my high heels nor did I have a driver's license. But whoever it was, was "lost" to me as I went in with my ticket I had saved up for and found a seat.  It was a play, and the stars were the really famous ones that did the play on broadway.  I was so thrilled to see the real stars that were also in the movies as well as Broadway.

At intermission I found I needed to find the rest room.  Not being at all versed on the ins and outs of such a place or occasion, I headed straight to a door in an area that said Rest Room and without paying attention, walked in.  To meet a well dressed man intent on leaving the room.  He stopped me  kindly and told me I was in the wrong place.  He pointed to a MEN sign on the door, patted my arm and shoulder, smiled and led me to the WOMEN side of the area.  I was  pink faced embarrassed, but he took an additional moment to soothe my fluttering embarrassment with words to the effect that people do make mistakes.  Having gone into the correct area and having left it..I decided I needed a drink of water before the play began again.  I made my way to the restaurant.

I still think that people are very kind to very young boys and girls who seem "lost" if you will.  I sat, and ordered a glass of water when the waiter approached.  I had two dollars to spend on it! ( I did not know there would be no charge).  And the well dressed waiter brought it to to me with a flourish and a complimentary warm croissant. He set it before me with a smile.  I had my arms around myself and he asked if I was cold.  I said I would be all right but "thank you".  Next thing I knew, he brought an impeccably clean, white, and starched waiter's jacket and put it about my shoulders.  Looking back, I am honored,  Then, I was grateful and smiled at him.  I wore it into the play as it was chilly, and in a circus-like huge tent.  The stage was, of course, a real stage. (I did return the jacket to the restaurant, by the way when I left later).

That was my night of nights.  I don't recall how I found the person who brought me but I knew all would be well despite that. It was.  The faith of youngsters can be strong.  Looking back there were several opportunities for things to go awry that evening, but they didn't. I am grateful for that evening and there were more like it at a similar place just across the river.  As a teen I loved seeing the stars as they performed.  I knew they were looking right at me.

I was looking at a portrait that was done by someone at a shopping mart right about then wearing that very dress.  That brought about this memory and the blog.  It hangs with two others on the wall in my room.

When you are young, every day is a bright chance.

Un -pleasant Surprise

I have not had this happen in all my life but it happened last week and again today, the beginning to another week.

I was in Wal-Mart last week and wanted chromium.  I haven't been able to buy any, no matter where I have looked.  It just isn't to be found.  I was also looking for Vitamin B6.  As I perused the shelf, I saw BOTH!  One each.  Eureka as the saying  goes.  I have found it.  I took both bottles up with everything else and paid.  Got home..was ready to put them in the vitamin area and thought to take one of each, as I had not had either in several months.  Imagine my surprise when they uncapped extremely easily and...the safety seal was gone.  And they were half empty to two thirds empty.  I had thrown out the sales slip just before into the recyclable trash which had...naturally!!!! just been picked up.  There went my sales slip.

Had I taken it back for my money back, with no sales slip they may have taken it-maybe.  But see how that would look.  They would be thinking if not saying "Suuurrrreee it was that way when you bought it". So I bit the bullet.  Today, I went to a regular food store and bought a jar of honey...store brand label  and still marked up to 6$.  When I got home..I was going to have some honey with my lunch, when I got an additional surprise.  Different store altogether, but someone opened it...pried the safety seal up on half of the top and tried to put it back.

I found the sales slip and I am taking this back.

Guys, this may be local but you never know.  Look at your purchases.  I found a jar of jam open as well when I got home.  That is also going back.

Here is a darling to look at and regain some good humor.

I Swiped  this from Eastside Cats I think....
