Someone in the family is a Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. fan. I'm not. Never was, never will be--- and all of its ilk is an anathema to me. That someone is here with me, hence I have to hear that program every weekday night. I have it low as possible in volume and read through it. BUT you can't help but hear it.
I irritated said person immeasurably with my snarky comments until they told me they would give up watching it because of my constant critical comments. I immediately owned that fact and completely agreed that I made it miserable being in there. That was a good and necessary thing to say to me. It did not bother me. It simply made me realise that my so-called 'commentary' was un-welcome, and frankly, un-necessary. I could surely restrain myself half an hour I thought to myself finally. Since I was told this needed complaint on my un-ceasing commentary I do not make remarks any longer. I know if the situation was reversed I would have felt the same way.
All this to get to the point. I can't stand..never have been able to stand sheer stupidity played out on a situation "comedy". Now. That's just me. I am probably a majority of one. I leave the room sometimes even though I would rather sit with Katie and read. So now, I just read "hard" and try not to hear it. That whiney horrible voice...the complete lack of maturity he is made to show...the mental level maybe at the age of seven. I used to think if I heard "But Sargeant" endlessly repeated again (and I always did) I would shoot the TV screen. If I saw that walk with wiggly shoulders; and open mouth I would get out the shotgun and end the TV's life.
I feel the same way about Barney Fife in a way. When the show writes him as being endlessly annoying to Andy, I always want to say aloud to the character(s) he is annoying- JUST TELL HIM NO for pete sake!
The actors I just spoke of are superb at their job. If they can make you suspend your disbelief for the time they are there to entertain you, then they have done their job extremely well. I will give them complete credit...kudos for a job well done. Just I can't stand it. Everyone's taste is different. Mine is more literal and opposed to silliness (unless it's Charlie Leghorn or the Tasmanian Devil. Then I crack up into pieces!
